Wind River Range

Wind River Range lies in the state of Wyoming. The long range of mountains is about 161 km long covering large part of Wyoming State. Wind River Range is part of Rocky Mountains which runs from North West part to south east part of Wyoming State. Gannett Peak is the highest peak in the range of Wind River Range and it is about 4207 m in height. There are more than 40 peaks in Wind River Range which are about 13000ft high. The area of mountain range is covered with dense forests having diversity of flora and fauna. Wind River Range in short is called Winds. There are two large national forests which occupy large part of the Wind River Range. Shoshone national forest and Bridger-Teton National forests are the two popular national forests situated on this mountain range.

  1. Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is popular eco area which is under the government conservation. The area of national forest is under the Yellowstone ecosystem. Gannett glacier is the largest glacier which is situated in Gannett Peak of the Winds.
  2. Winds are formed of granite rock which has formed in billion years under the earth surface. Batholiths eroded away which were formed in starting of the formation of the mountain range. It took million years to erode the batholiths rock which is a form of granite rock and finally granite rocked formed after million years.
  3. Large numbers of glaciers are present in the mountain range. In the ice age the area was covered with snow and this lead to the formation of glaciers. Shoshone national park is popular for the large number of glaciers. There are more than 100 glaciers in this area. This area consists of glaciers which are one of the largest glaciers in US.
  4. Many long rivers originate from winds of Wyoming. Rivers like Colorado River, Wind River, Bighorn River and sandy rivers are some of the famous rivers of this region.
  5. Northern region of the winds consist of animals like Grizzly bears. Wide variety of flora and fauna is the center of attraction for tourists. Falcons, eagles, mule dear etc are some of the animals found in this region. About 300 species are found in the region covered by Winds. Pine, fur, spruce are found in the region which are popular flora found in this region.

Many birds and animals migrate in this region of Winds. Roads have been built for reaching the far areas on Winds.
